Stable temperature, restless humidity. A single structure quietly containing many environments at once.
Environmental Context
An underground commercial parking structure with limited natural ventilation and varying occupancy throughout the day. Small environmental sensors identified stable temperature conditions but significant localised differences in humidity around plant rooms, utility corridors and service penetrations.
Observation
The building did not possess one environmental condition. It contained many.
Biological pressure was not evenly distributed throughout the structure but concentrated around invisible microclimates created by building services and airflow patterns. Traditional inspection routes would have treated the environment as uniform. Continuous observation revealed otherwise.
Operational Insight
Buildings contain multiple biological environments. Effective monitoring begins by understanding how those environments differ rather than assuming they behave as one system.
