Continuous Biological Pressure

Biological pressure is the standing condition of every building, not an event. It must be read as a system.

Biological pressure is the standing condition of every building, not an event that occurs to it. Climate, moisture, ecology and human activity exert continuous pressure on materials, voids and interfaces. The expression of that pressure — termites, rodents, mould, decay — is a downstream signal, not a root cause.

Treating the pressure as continuous changes which questions can be asked. The first question is no longer “what happened?” but “what is the system doing now?”.

Pressure is the system. Signal is its expression. Intelligence is what we make of both.
